Cherry Blossom Scarf/Wrap
Hitomi Shida’s Japanese Knitting Stitch Bible
[260 Patterns] P. 24. Pattern #14
Cherry Blossom Scarf
3 Balls, Caron Simply Soft; Color: Soft Pink,
315 yards/288m each
Knitting Needles: 5mm Bamboo Knitting Needles or an equivalent that is pointy — it’s easier to k2tog or SSK a lot. I tried steel, but it was very slippery, and not pointed enough to be easy.
Cast on 96 stitches, long tail, cast on method makes a lovely edge finish
Set up rows for Scarf Pattern:
Row 1: k1, p1, k1, Knit across to last 3 stitches, k1, p1, k1
Row 2: k1, p1, k1, Knit across to last 3 stitches, k1, p1, k1
Repeat rows 1-12 of Pattern, until desired length with 3 edge stitches on either side (k1, p1, k1…k1, p1, k1, for both knit and purl rows.)
Making it Your Own:
Please calculate 15 stitch, 12 row repeat, with (3, or your desired number) edge stitches on either side, in case you decide to increase or decrease size.
Bobble Stitch: Crochet method:
The stitch on which the Bobble goes is worked as a Bobble stitch.
You will be using a crochet hook, slightly smaller than your knitting needle. [If you are a crocheter, this is easy for you, for you will essentially be making a puff stitch with that stitch].
Insert your hook into the stitch, as if to knit, yarn over with your working yarn, and draw it through the stitch loop, yarn over again and pull it through the loop. You will do this a total of 4 times, until you have 7 loops on your crochet hook.
Yarn over again and pull the yarn through all 7 loops. Chain 1, to close that stitch. Now reach back behind the stitch to the stitch bar at the base of it, and insert your hook into it, yarn over and pull through to make 2 loops on your crochet hook. Yarn over again, and pull yarn through the 2 loops, to close the stitch.
[This anchors it better than doing it on the side as the Pattern asks for on Page 159 of the Book. I tried both methods and this one is more secure.]
Place this new stitch on the right needle. Continue with pattern. On the purl side, just purl as any other stitch.
